Personally, i always think that Gilets are very 'Rah'. The staple item of the Oxford (or similar) university student wearing nothing but Jack Wills. My vision may be disturbed by living in Oxford, and seeing them all the time lol!

I hate the stigma attached to them personally, so I don't venture near them.

I can see how a well fitted and minimalist one would work well as a layering piece in the winter, but it's not for me.

"Rah" haha not heard the expression before but I think i get what you mean!

yeah not sure about them, wanted to buy somthing a bit different - different around here anyway, ive not seen anyone wear one -

not really decided yet about whether they could look good.

Depends, personally I don't like them but they can work as a layering piece providing that they aren't too bold and outlandish. Worn on their own they really don't work. I have seen a few look books recently where they have been used to layer underneath a tweed/wool blazer and also in combination with denim jackets (underneath). For this to work it would have to be a thin padded gilet. The slight PVC finish to some of them might work too, giving a good contrast of fabrics and with PVC set to make appearances on jumpers etc (River Island collection etc)I think that would be my choice if I was to go for one!

Suit Supply seem to be promoting them this season, but i remain unconvinced.

I quite like Gilets, they offer something different and I'm liking the 3 looks above from SuitSupply.

Having said that, I don't like the large puffy type, thin and simple (as above).
