Double Double Breasted?
I am currently in the process of getting a 3 piece suit made at the tailor. However, my propensity for double breasted tailoring may be getting ahead of me. You see, I know I am getting a double breasted waistcoat, that I know, but would it be too much to have my coat double breasted too? Would those two things look okay together, or just weird?

I reckon you'll be fine mate - a double breasted overcoat could be a bit much, but two out of three layers would be just fine.
Only thing is the cut - if you go double breasted for the jacket, may I suggest you go for three pairs of buttons, softly constructed shoulders and a shorter length? That's a modern way to do it without looking too 1980s. Just suggestions.
Also, it's not as suave under the jacket but I think lapels on a double breasted waistcoat look so good.

I am getting a lapel on the waistcoat for sure, but I don't know if I want notch or peak. Thanks for the advice on the jacket, you are quite right.

When going double breasted, peak lapels every time I reckon.
I had a DB waistcoat with several rows of buttons, a fairly high break, and peak lapels. It's way too small for me now and I never made it look as supremely awesome as it could have, and now I can't find another one anywhere
