If your decision to buy her brogues is backed by watertight evidence, then go for it, providing you have got the exact sizing, colour preferences and other details down to a t. Taking stuff back to the shop is kind of a turn off I reckon.
I bought an ex a Swarovski necklace which she apparently still wears nearly 5 years since we split up. And no, I'm not stalking her.

Those all in one velour romper suits are nice though.
