Denim Jackets?

I'm was going to nab one off the internet, just on impulse, but its not something I've worn before so I was wandering what you guys think of them? GQ recently said they were a must-have.

I only ever wear chinos and trousers so the double denim disaster won't be a problem!

For me, it's an essential item in the wardrobe of any man worth his salt. Very versatile. Can be used as a go to throw on with a lot of pieces, wash dependant obviously.

I don't care what anyone says, when double denim is done properly, it looks great.

I'm strongly considering investing in one myself, so any thoughts on the most versatile denim jackets and tips on how to use/links to lookbooks would be appreciated from here as well

Definitely going to be purchasing one when I get paid. Leaning towards the AllSaints Gowd Denim Jacket at the moment.

I have a mid wash Levi's one that works great "double denimd" with a pair of indigo jeans.

They go with pretty much anything, definitely get one!

They look good with a pair of black torusers/cords (slim/skinny fit) and an off-white cable knit.

As Billy said, they can be very versatile.

I have an old one from Next, but never really wear it TBH. I might have to pull it out and try it on. I wish it had a borg/fur collar: I think those jackets look pretty awesome.

Great thing to have in the wardrobe. I have a dark wash Allsaints one myself. I've been meaning to get a light-wash variety too; two denim jackets might seem pointless but different washes suit different things.
The lighter wash is more versatile; it's a tried and tested look and it's the only way to do blue-on-blue double denim (with darker jeans, rolled up sleeves, a light neutral top and brown leatherwear since you ask). It works everywhere a darker wash works and it's easier to wear.
The darker wash has a certain je ne sais quoi that the light one doesn't though. I can't put this into words properly, but try both and you'll get what I mean; it's still rugged and still casual, but it's somehow smarter than the lighter wash.
Either way, you'll get a lot of use out of it.
Doesn't work with trousers though; chinos, cords or certain jeans should be your standbys.
Also, you only wear chinos and trousers? No jeans? What are you playing at get a pair, they're essentials.
