No, no, no to the leather belts with double denim. The typical casual jeans belt just rings too much of cowboy. Wear skinnies (but not skin tight), no belt and the look steers well clear of the Wild West.
I think oxford shirts - or shirts in general - should be avoided with double denim. Jersey stuff like, tees and henleys, works better, I find.

You're quite right though; a simple t-shirt is more than enough.
You could try this :
Combination 1 : white v-neck tees, maroon red skinny pants and dark brown boots.
Combination 2 : white round or crew neck t-shirt, slim beige pants and maroon red loafers.
