I completely agree with the idea of pairing it with a roll neck, that's the first thing that came to mind. For more of a mod look, I would suggest pairing it with a white roll neck and some white linen pants. Or the opposite (a black roll neck with black slacks). If you choose the 1st option, I would pair it with brown loafers or oxfords. For the second, I would wear it with black shoes so that you'll end up looking more lean & tall. Hope this helps

What colour trousers go well with sand coloured desert boots, I'm sure there's plenty but in my head I just can't think of any

Can't go wrong with a slim pair of indigo jeans with sand desert boots. Or burgundy chinos is a nice contrast. If in doubt, go navy.

I've had some pale blue slim chino's for ages and have realised that I don't wear them as often as I would like because I am unsure of what to wear them with. Which feels ridiculous, because how hard can it be? A white oxford shirt look OK, but am also looking for other suggestions. They are not quite so pale as to be pastel.

Just ordered a pair from Zara that sound similar, I'm thinking whites, browns/beiges, navy, maybe a bit of red or pink. Would work with other pale/pastel colours or with something darker for a nice contrast.
