you wouldn't be liable to get your head kicked in for wearing wallys, jeans with a chain, and a shirt though. as it doesn't look as awful/suspect as a full sailors suit, a tie, & 10oz of hairgel does which is what someone in the other thread wears. i admit wouldn't wear the cap or a varsity jacket, i would wear a better jacket, and better jeans. but the style is good and it does suit that bloke in the photo tbf. so yeah, horses for courses is true i suppose. can't argue.

Hi, I'm pretty sure I'm the "guy in the other thread". I'm sorry that you think I look awful (though I've never worn hair gel in my life so I don't know what that comment is about). I would hasten to add that everyone else I talked to on that night disagreed with you, but that is besides the point.

Of course people are entitled to their own opinions, but to come onto a style forum and tell people they look awful is just a bit mean. Especially when this look is breaking every single rule in the book (and yes there ARE rules). He's wearing black jeans with brown shoes, a rather bland shirt, glasses that would embarrass my grandad and a chain which even most thirteen year olds have rejected for its sheer ridiculousnous.

I'm not a massive fan of the whole arguing on forum things, I find it rather petty but when a comment like that is made I do feel the need to respond.

WOW. what an outfit, so unique. looks brilliant. the man is the HEIGHT of FASHION. his girlfriend must have to fend all the other girls off. all those losers in jeans and a shirt, and clarks. clarks are rubbish. just listed all my current clothes on eBay and logged straight onto Riess to deck myself out.

So when you get dressed, you really believe there is a possibility certain items in your wardrobe will qualify you for good beating? I can't say it crosses my mind when I get dressed in the morning, and certainly here in Kent I have yet to come across the Schutzstaffel of Fashion Police.

Then again my wardrobe is quite vast. I'd wear a tweaked version of that outfit you linked one day, and hapilly wear Nath's clothes on another .

I wore a navy blazer, pale blue oxford shirt, white chinos (rolled up to the ankle) and penny loafers around the city (and the supermarket) today (not too different from the outfit you had a go at in another thread), and you know what, I managed to last the entire day without my head being kicked in.

And as for your the second photo you posted, yeah the guy looks a bit of a plonker (his hair needs sorting badly and the trousers need slimming down a little), but I've often worn something similar to that (red skinny chinos, biscuit coloured blazer, chambray shirt and tan brogues) and pulled it off. Oh, and avoided a beating too.

which goes back to my original question on the other thread, where do you guys live? I live in England too, but wearing the sailor suit would get someone a beating where i live everywhere other than the city centre. and even there, you would be laughed at by everyone.

at least you are honest when you say he looks a plonker, the photo. I suppose it depends on why you got into clothes in the first place. I'm into it not to "be different" but simply because i like to look good. i look better than the average person but not in an out there way. I own few bright clothes and no bright jeans or chinos, or shorts. I'm not an attention seeker, would hate that.

Yes alot of new trends are good and I get right on them, although lately i'm finding things i started doing on my own come into style with everyone else a year or 2 later ie i was the first around here wearing vans 7 or 8 years ago, and the first to wear XL tops/sweaters with skinnies, first to get into american apparel hoods, first person i saw to wear jet black studs in my ear, now i see loads do it. but most trends are just stupid. The guy i linked to looks ridiculous. his chinos are terrible, so is his hair and blazer, and his shoes are terrible also. his brolly is the icing on the cake. If i saw him i'd laugh. Yes by catwalk standards he is more fasionable than me, but at the end of the day i still look far better.

Had to laugh at the no brown shoes with black jeans. No brown shoes with black jeans, but brown shoes with white sailor chinos rolled up with pink socks would be ok by "fashion" standards these days. That's the point i'm making.

Not when i get dressed, not at all mate. all my clothes are brilliant right down to my accessories. It's others i worry about.

I think you're in dire need of an education when it comes to terms like "fashion", "trends" and "style".

We don't wear blazers and smart clothes because it's a "trend". We wear them because they produce classic timeless looks. How is a blazer a trend? Men have worn then for over a century and will continue to do so for much longer.

If dressing in a refined and smart manner isn't your thing, that that's fine. If you don't understand it, that's also fine. But most people reading this forum can see that your ridicule of these looks isn't down to taste or opinion, but ignorance and not having the confidence to wear anything more than jeans and a t-shirt. I personally, like to look the best I possibly can, and for me that means looking clean-cut, refined and smart.

I wouldn't have the confidence to wear it because i want to keep my teeth. and i wouldn't want to wear it because it looks bad. i look better than that already, so why alter my style. Again, when you go to buy a loaf of bread and a pint of milk do you kit yourself up in a blazer and tie, with brogues? When you go to the pub to watch the match do you wear a blazer, tie, bright chinos and boat shoes? obviously your mum buys the milk and you aren't into football, or any sport, but I'm speaking generally to people who dress overkill smart. Try too hard imo.
