Opening Suit/Blazer Pockets
Quick and simple question really. Is it necessary to have some sort of special tool for the job, or is it ok to use a sharp knife? (was considering using a scalpel - med student - but don't want to risk ruining my new blazer by not checking first)

The thread is purely there for show purposes and help retain the blazers shape whilst it is on display, there isn't any other reason for it. You could get a stitch picker, but you can just use a sharp knife, whatever you want, I just use scissors to cut one or two threads and then pull it out.

I just use scissors too, not sure I'd get away with smuggling a scalpel out of the dissecting room...

I use small nail scissors, like said above just cut either the first couple of threads, then the rest should be quite easy to pull out. I wouldn't dare use a scalpel, don't trust myself to not slip up!

Ok cheers guys. I feel more comfortable going it at now, which will be tomorrow. Time to break out my first blazer+pocket square outfit - been dying to try it out practically ever since I joined the forum!
@Sheep Boy:
At my Uni we're required to bring our own dissection set actually. Yet another of their ways of stripping me from money that could be better spent on shoes lol.
