Rules: Black & Brown?

I have a colour question regarding a black rain coat and brown boots . . .

This is the rain coat:

Fairmont Car Coat | Brooks Brothers

I have these chinos in TAUPE colour:

Mens Chinos | Filter Chino | AllSaints

I have been wearing the above chinos with dark brown desert boots and light brown desert boots, see the colours here:

Would I be able to wear the above rain coat in black if I am wearing a the above brown desert boots? I've looked at the combination in the mirror and I'm just unsure, it's not that it looks bad, it just doesn't look great and I wondered what people out there thought when it comes to wearing a black coat with brown footwear? is it just bad?

I've never had an issue, but then again that's when I've worn black woollen coats which somehow don't look as bad as the cotton varieties.

If you think it looks bad then don't wear it. Simple as that. I personally find the whole black/brown thing to be hyped legend, but there you go.
