White Trousers: Great Or Just Very Impractical

Hi guys, I know quite a few of you are into white trousers on here and I've decided to get in on the trend, much to my dads horror: he does the washing and he's a practical man of the highest order.

Firstly, are they a worthy purchase or are they the most impractical thing in the world? Bearing in mind I'm not the most rugged, sporty person in the world. Let's just say I don't like quad biking...

Secondly, any cheap examples anyone has found anywhere? Zara is the best value I've seen so far, don't really want to spend more than thirty.

Thirdly, how do you like to wear them? I'm thinking navy DB jacket, breton striped top and either boat shoes or loafers depending on the situation. Is this an appropriate look for wondering around abroad?

They're both. I learned that when I paired mine with my navy cotton cricket knit; fluff and threads all over them, looked like shit. Your look sounds foolproof though.
I got mine, a Farah pair, from TK Maxx, and had them altered to fit. Try that. The Zara ones are good too but they only come in one leg length - and you are pretty lanky, yes? Which in fairness may well suit their typical silhouette.

I second that: they're impractically great. Hence why I've been on the lookout for a beige/ecru pair which are just slightly darker. Zara do some awesome trousers, however the lack of information on their website is a night-mare. If they could explain the fit of their items I'm sure they'd sell a lot more.

I love them. It's one item, I'd never spend a lot of money on though; don't look where you're sitting and they can be ruined.

I have a couple of different pairs from Zara (photos below), which look great for the price. They are incredibly long in the leg, though. I'd need to be wearing stilts for them to be the right length. A quick trip to the tailor soon sorts that out though. I also find Zara's sizing small, so where I might normally be a 28/29" waist, a 30" waist fits beautifully.

In answer to your question Sam, yes my legs are rather long. I believe I have tried on a pair of jeans in Zara and wasn't hugely pleased, although I seem to remember that was due to the fit rather than the length.

I'll pop down to the Zara in Cabott circus tomorrow to have a look. It's the start of my first year uni exams on tuesday and I could do with a nice purchase to take out some stress =P

I can't really add much to what's been said already. Practicality is an issue; I haven't even managed to wear mine yet, but I still can't wait to wear them. The forecast reckons some sunny days this week with 20+ temperatures, so I might finally manage to wear them. I got mine at H&M, and whilst I can't comment on lasting quality (not having worn them yet apart from trying them), straight off they fit me better than any chinos I've yet tried. H&M also seem to have a single leg length for most of their trousers, so they might not have the length you need. I bought the 29s and the leg length is slightly short of a perfect fit, and I measure about a 32 inside leg.

[edit]Just seen you got them from H&M in the "look what I bought" thread. I've just seen the ones I got online, and they're £15, whereas a month or so ago I got them for £20 in store. That's life I guess. Mine are actually slightly off-white anyway.

Those H and M ones are what I bought today!

I got changed and went shopping out in them again, teamed with my navy double-breasted. Got a couple of funny looks, though mostly from the usual hollister clad variety. Felt very Italian!
