Tie Choice Please?
going to ascot in a few weeks, looking for inspiration for a tie to finish off my outfit. i'm thinking something pretty simple and block colour would be best as the 'statement' pieces are elsewhere.

If it were me, I'd stick with the classic navy tie. Cary Grant swore by the a navy suit/white shirt/navy tie combo. It is the epitome of style, in my opinion.
Another option is to go for the 'presidential' which is the navy suit/white shirt/red tie(favoured by American politicians because it uses the colours of the flag). I tend to pick out a deep scarlet tie when going for this look to avoid it being too obvious. It's the ultimate in power dressing (although not necessarily a match for the pocket square).
A third option (and would be my choice on this occasion) would be brown, which would work well by tying in the shoes with the browns in the pocket square. And brown tie/white shirt/navy suit is a killer look which you won't see around as much as the other two combos.

nice! not a fan of the blue suit/red tie (looks a bit "wall street" to me). i was considering navy but brown is interesting. i already own plenty of navy ties, will have a mooch around town to see if i can find a brown one.

What's the fit/quality like on the suit from NEXT mate? Was pleasantly surprised by the suits when I popped in earlier today. Especially like the Burgundy one.

I went into Next the other day and they had some of the most disgusting suits I had ever seen. One in particular was a ghastly, hideous grey that was so shiny you could probably see your face in it. However, that suit looks rather nice. I think you could pull out something citrusy; think green or orange, nothing too bright but just enough to make a statement.
Otherwise I like Jay's idea of brown.

Cant go wrong with the navy tie, a classic look Italian guys stick to most often, but why not try a green tie. Think they look great when worn with a mid grey suit...
