I'm in the market for some slim fitting indigo jeans. I already have a pair of Nudie Thin Finn's, but I want something slightly looser and smart looking for dressing them up.
I'm tempted by these from Uniqlo:
MEN Made In Japan Slim Fit Jeans+E *-*UNIQLO*UK*Online*fashion*store
I seem to remember reading good things about their denim for the price. Does anyone have any experiences? Also, I am assuming these are raw denim, though it does not expressly say so? The Thin Finn's I have were already washed when I bought them (from eBay) so I don't have any direct experience of raw denim from new.
Am wondering if raw denim would be the best thing to go for, or whether I should just buy some cheaper indigo jeans such as these from Zara (in the dark wash):
BASIC SLIM JEANS - Jeans - Man - ZARA United Kingdom
Is it worth paying the extra for the Uniqlo ones?
Yeah, Uniqlo are quite good - I like them because of their simplicity and minimal branding - I think they would be raw yes. But for a cheaper option, Zara are fine. Depends what your budget is - if zara's fit you better then obviously go for them?
Out of interest why is it you want them looser? Not sure the slim fit zara would be any looser than the Nudie Thin Finns.
I will try the Zara ones on in the shop for fit, the Uniqlo will have to be mail order though. You could be right about Zara's being quite skinny, I have some of their cords and they are very narrow, but I think are technically classed as 'slim'. Maybe I didn't really mean looser, but a different silhouette? I love the Thin Finn's but sometimes I am unsure if they are as good dressed up as I would like. The back pockets hang quite low etc.
I spent a lot of time looking at Uniqlo stuff when I lived in Japan, and I spent some time looking at Zara when I lived in Europe. They seem pretty equivalent to me from a quality standpoint (a step above H&M?), so I don't think you gain anything by paying the extra price...that's probably just the cost to ship it. Personally, I prefer the look of the Zara jeans, but neither one of them is bad.
I recently bought a pair from GAP in the 1969 range, also made from Japanese denim, and was very impressed for the price (they're less than 40 quid if I remember). I bought the 'authentic skinny fit' which is more of a slim on me, which is exactly what I was after.
