It seems to me that many men stick to a single brand when buying underwear and also socks. We might change brand from time to time as we age or discover more comfortable options thanks to an unexpected Christmas gift say, but it is one area of fashion where brand loyalty is shown for particularly extended amounts of time. I guess thereís something about seeking comfort and familiarity in that first protective layer of clothing. With guys becoming more adventurous with their choice of socks and daring to step away from the trusted black or navy cotton standard from as far back as the trusty primary school plimsoll ensemble, Iím interested to know if FB readers would see value in a mid-premium range brand dealing entirely in socks online, and nothing else? Or do readers view more colorful socks as a passing trend?
I've worn colourful socks for years and without being contrary, I do not have any massive brand loyalty- mainly because as you say, I get them as gifts quite often. One thing I will say, for the price, Paul Smith socks do not last nearly long enough compared to for eg Duchamp. For a good mid range priced sock, Peter Jones (of Dragons Den fame) makes some excellent ones for less than a tenner a pair
I have never got into the crazy socks trend but, with this AW coming up, I'm considering buying a few pairs to pair with some heritage looks. In fact calling it a trend is a bit unfair, as coloured socks are actually quite a timeless statement. Much like coloured trousers, they've been around for decades before the highstreet clocked onto them.
Can anyone suggest some fair cheap heritage patterned socks I can pick up anywhere?
I remember seeing friends wear colorful socks ten or fifteen years ago, so I don't believe it's a passing trend...at least in the sense that there will always be people wearing them, and done properly they will always look good. I do believe, however, that their popularity is peaking and will probably wane in coming years. Is a "passing trend" something unstylish that gets hot for a few years (bell bottoms and platform shoes with goldfish in them), or just anything that becomes popular for a short while?
In response to your other question, I wouldn't see myself using such a website. As the others have mentioned, they're easy enough to get as gifts, or just pick up when you're in the store for something else, so I don't generally make a special effort to pick socks up. Maybe I just haven't found a brand that really blows me away yet and gets me excited for sock shopping.
