I've been wearing thin cotton undershirts for years (Hanes, for example) and I never paid too much attention to them. Now that I'm paying a little more attention to my shirts, I've noticed that I can see the band of white around my neck with most of the shirts I put on. It never bothered me before, but now I feel like it's a splash of white where I don't want it in my outfit. I've considered moving away from the crew neck undershirt and only wearing V-neck or tank tops, but I'm wondering if they are even necessary at all. Do other beaners wear undershirts? If so, do you only wear them with certain tops where they can hide (crew neck pullovers, for example), or do you only wear certain styles (V-neck or tank top)? I think they are useful if you sweat a lot, but in most situations I don't have to worry about that.
If I had persperation problem, the last thing I'd do is put another layer on! I don't wear undershirts ever, I rarely even wear a t-shirt under a jumper.
I'm not familiar with the term "undershirt" but assuming it's just a t-shirt you wear under a shirt then yeah I almost always wear one. I see what you mean Nath but not wearing one would result in pit stains for me, while the tee doesn't really add that much warmth in my opinion.
But yeah Matt I usually do go with V-necks or otherwise make sure that the colour of the undershirt is compatible with the rest of the outfit. A tanktop would defeat the purpose for me.
Yeah, that's what I mean. Some brands are very thin and I don't think they add much heat capture, but they do soak up any extra perspiration. I have been wondering why they sell tank tops. Like you said, wouldn't help much in that department. Is it just because some people don't like their shirt material rubbing up against their skin? I guess I can understand that with a scratchy sweater, but maybe the answer is just to avoid bad materials?

I'm wearing a vest / tank top as an under layer now - oops!
I don't really understand the chest hair thing though, unless the intention is that the undershirt is deliberately visible.
