Spring Trench/Mac
Hello!
Been reading numerous articles and a few forum posts on here about trench coats/macs and where to find them, a lot of them are from last spring. I've browsed the usual shops - Topman, Asos and a few others, found some I liked but not 100% sure. Thinking of a beige/khaki/darker stone coat, something I can wear in the spring and on cold summer days with a casual flair, something that'll just as good unopened as it does opened.
Here's a nice one I found:
Essential belted trench | Banana Republic
Another:
Mango | HE by Mango Belted Double Breasted Mac at ASOS
This one (looks a bit baggy actually):
J. Lindeberg | J Lindeberg Mac Cotton Twill at ASOS
And finally this one, which is single breasted (opinons on single breasted trench's?)
Selected | Selected Trench Coat at ASOS
Opinions on these guys? Also other ideas and stores I can look at, looked through eBay and gave up on gumtree. As you can tell my price range is to about £150, preferably under £100 though.
Cheers!

To certain extent this does depend on exactly what you want from your coat. Do you put highest priority on style (and you are looking for something styled with trench coat aspects) or practicality?
The trench coat is an item which puts practicality first, designed for officers in the First World War, every feature is designed to fit its purpose. It then became a design classic and inspired other variations.
The thing I can't help noticing about, for instance, the Mango and Banana Republic coats is that they are very short. Like car coats, they only just extend beyond the length of a jacket. If you want a proper raincoat, that isn't going to cut it.
The other two are single breasted coats and not strictly speaking trench coats. Again, if you are looking for a practical raincoat, the double-breasted fastening that goes all the way up to neck is probably going to do a better job.
I noticed this on the internet from House of Frazer, as a pretty traditional interpretation of the trench coat - Howick Tailored Astaire Double Breasted Belted Mac Putty - House of Fraser
Of the ones you posted I like the Banana Republic one best. In the photo at least, it looks better quality and the description suggests it some of the proper features. The zip out vest sounds like a good idea.

Yeah sorry I never pointed that out, looking for something that'll be more stylish than practical, yet something that will also double up as a good outer layer for the colder days of the spring/summer. I'd be incorporating a range of knitwear underneath for the extra layers too. I guess I'm looking for a more mac styled jacket, maybe cropped, but with the elements of a trench (such as the detail on the cuffs etc).
Something like this would be perfect: http://www.ukshopsonline.net/images/...dCottonMac.jpg

It has got to be double-breasted for me. The banana republic and Mango (any other fruit-based coats you've managed to locate?!) are the nicest, but as Wolf points out, they are both cut short. I would happily wear either though

I have the 'Warren' Mac from Reiss and love it. Only problem is that it is partly lined with a wool lining: not really suitable for summer but great for the transitional seasons. I wear it as a proper winter coat as well and just layer up underneath.

I got this Junk De Luxe one from TK Maxx for 50 notes, loving it off. It's a great style and a good coat for all seasons.

It has a crazy snakeskin lining! I do the belt up behind the back, it's a bit annoying otherwise.
