Been browsing around on the Internet for a while, trying to find a jacket that will a) fit me (Im a 35-36" chest), b) look good and c) not cost above £180.
I spotted a Carhartt Trust Jacket and that stands out, but then I found this;
Fjallraven Fjell Jacket in Uncle Blue, from Oi Polloi.
Has anybody any experience with Fjallraven? Crap quality? Brilliant quality? etc etc.
Fjällräven is quite a popular brand in scandinavia. It's a Swedish brand and originally they only made rucksacks. I don't own anything from them myself, but the quality is excellent as far as I know. They mostly (exclusively?) make clothing for outdoor life, so i think that is a jacket that will last many years...
My housemate's got one of their rucksacks, they seem really good quality, solid & hard-wearing. No idea about the clothes though.
Fjällräven (Swedish for "the arctic fox") is known for their high quality and durable clothes. It's actually funny that they've become a bit trendy, as I used to associate the brand from my childhood with bearded, "outdoor people", with zero fashion interest - or rather an anti-fashion interest. That said, I too find them very attractive and have been planning on getting one of their parkas and possibly some of their rain gear.
As for the quality, they're very good value for money. Some of their clothes, and rucksacks are virtually unbreakable. My mother, who works in childrens day care, wore a Fjällräven jacket pretty much every day for ten years, only changing the zipper a couple of times as they wore out, until it finally fell apart.
