Light Brown Suit
Afternoon folks - first time poster here.
Just picked up a light brown/almost stone suit for workwear...I'm after getting some burgundy/oxblood footwear to match up and am quite happy with selecting the shirt, tie, etc.
But...I'd been eyeing up getting a charcoal pea coat for this winter and I'm not sure that's a suitable match - the coat seems better suited to a black footwear, smart jeans sort of look rather than the light brown suit with burgundy shoes.
Anybody able to pursuade me that it does actually work...or, instead, offer any suggestions as to what sort of colour coat I should be looking at to match up with the work wear? I'm only around 5'7/8" so I tend to be drowned out in heavier-long coats unfortunately.
Peacoats are often a bit short for a suit - you don't need a hugely long coat but make sure it covers your suit jacket! Navy might work better than charcoal with a light brown/stone suit.
I'd agree that you want a coat that's a little longer than a pea coat tends to be. Some sort of car coat (mid thigh/above the knee length) would go well with a suit.
Light brown suits look relatively informal and your coat should probably reflect this. A light grey could work well here - you could even go for a pea coat style coat (just marginally longer).
I'd be tempted to go for a different colour of brown. Camel is apparently resurgent in popularity at the moment so you could consider that or how about these with a slight but distinct pattern in them:
Thanks for the responses.
I'm just concerned that long coats will drown me out because I'm so short! Incidently, I don't necessarily intend to use the coat and the suit jacket together - indeed, the jacket is likely to stay at home until Spring...so having a coat long enough to cover the jacket isn't essential - just something that matches the trousers/shoes!
So here is the colour of the trousers/suit I like (nearest match anyway). And the shoes, which I'm content with as a decent match (unless anybody can dissuade me)...but it's the coat I'm not quite happy with...does its colour/style go with that of the trousers and shoes?
Hey mate, personally I think that coat is too short to wear over your suit jacket.
Shoes are okay. A longer coat won't necessarily drown you out...just make sure it is fitted and measures well.
I'll not really be planning on pairing the suit jacket with the coat - my question is more about whether you think the shoes/coat/trousers are a decent colour mix?

Can you go in and try on the coat with the suit? Ideally, try and check it in natural light.
The suit and coat are quite similar in tone, is the only problem I could foresee - just make sure they aren't so close that it might almost look like they were supposed to match. Apart from that, you should be good/
