Style for old/bald bloke - without looking stupid!
Despite joining recently I've picked up some good tips on here, some of which I've actioned already. However I could do with some more help and guidance. Please bear with me for quite a wide ranging post which I'll try to keep logical and in sections so you can comment on particular aspects.
First of all here's the raw material. I've not got many photos of myself but this is almost a bare canvas and shows my age and build, (warts and all):
BTW I'd been getting tortured for over an hour when it was taken.
For completness I am 59, 5ft 11, 12 stone, W32", L33", C40"
1 Style Strategy.
Bearing in mind my age, I don't think I can sail too close to the edge but am looking to put together a casual wardrobe that will give the impression of being well dressed.
Currently I spend too much time in a combination of jeans and technical outdoor gear which although sometimes practical, appears scruffy.
It's also crossed my mind that most of my clothing is in black, grey and navy so a bit of colour (probably more muted?) might be a good addition.
I have recently bought (after seeing the info on here - thanks) a navy pea coat, some light tan brogue boots and tan derby shoes which seem to go well with the black and indigo jeans I often wear.
In anticipation of more winter weather I am now looking for some tan cord trousers to go with the above pea coat outfit.
I've recently added a burgundy/blue check, and red/white check shirts but I think I need to add more colours to my shirts and knitwear.
Possibly some coloured accessories (scarf etc) might help.
To date as, usual for practicality, I've worn baseball caps in summer and a beanie in winter.
Given my strong Northern accent I have to date been reluctant to wear a flat cap although my wife thinks I should and I note that ICA likes them.
What do you guys think and what other styles might you suggest?
4 Hair style (ha ha)
I can't see that I've got much room for manouvre here.
I like it right down to zero but my wife thinks I look a thug so makes me have it a shade longer (no1)
I've seen somwhere that some kind of beard, tasche or glasses is a good idea for baldies. What do you think?
PS I normally wear glasses.
5 Buying jeans.
I normally wear straight/ relaxed jeans but I struggle to find decent ones which fit. Although ( for example) Levis 501s fit my waist they jam on my thighs as do many other makes apart from Marks and Spencer.
Any advice on makes or styles I might try.
I'm sorry if this a large/ vague post so please feel free to comment on any section of it. I look forward to your comments, advice and links to anything I might find useful.
