They originated on sports coats along with the shoulder patch to prevent wear but due to the new heritage trends, they have been brought back in. I personally like them but don't don't have them on either of my tweed blazers due to them being so common now.
Nay.
I like them on heavier jackets. On knitwear or lighter blazers whose sleeves I'd push up (sacrilege, I know) in Spring/Summer they spoil it for me because they look crap rolled up.
It's a big thumbs up from me.
They look great, as Sam says, on heavier, more autumnal fabrics: tweeds, heavy wools, corduroy all work well. And with the heritage trend, big news this AW they are bang on the money right now.
A definite yay from me too, I think they look great on tweed blazers and I also like them on knitwear too.
