Grey 2 Piece Suit - Can I Add A Black Waistcoat?

I'm basically looking for an opinion here, guys.

I've been meaning to post this for weeks but haven't got round to it. Now ordinarily, if I like what I see when I put an outfit together, I just go with it, but I've got my office party on the horizon so I wondered about this combination.

I'm putting together my new grey suit, white shirt, black waistcoat, black brogues, and am accenting with burgundy (tie, pocket square, socks lol).

Although this looks like a good combo, I don't want to look like I'm badly thrown together. So are there are "rules" when it comes to a contrasting waistcoat?

Also, someone mentioned to me that a belt + waistcoat should generally be avoided (??)

I don't know much about the rules, but perhaps a black cardigan would work here instead of the waistcoat? It does seem a little like the waiscoat may appear mismatched. It depends on the texture I think.

You could try wearing a black shirt with a grey waistcoat. That will still give you the contrast and add an 'edge' to your outfit, but it will maintain a 'clean' look.
