The "What Should I Wear With This?" Thread

I'm almost sold on getting these Fred Perry polo shirts (before you ask why Fred Perry instead of other brands, they're having a huge student discount where I'm from, and since my wardrobe's lacking polo shirts at the moment, I figured why the hell not).

Burgundy polo: I'm assuming camel and navy chinos, dark indigo jeans
Navy polo: camel and burgundy chinos, jeans

Or should I just get more versatile colours instead of these? Cheers

I agree with Pins. Those should be fine. If you have a pair of grey trousers, you can wear those too.

Personally, I would substitute a grey/olive shirt for the second one if it's available. I'm not a huge fan of blue tops for some reason, apart from outerwear (blue blazers, jackets, parkas, pea coats, macs, duffels, all look good to me). There's not enough detailing on that shirt to distract me from its general blueness.

The white lining provides a bit of contrast and so far I'm loving it. Goes great with my dark slim jeans, grey/olive chinos and maybe I'll get some navy chinos to go with it as well.

Decided not to get the navy polo since apparently everyone and their mum has that exact polo where I'm from!

I support the choice of the brighter red. Short-sleeved shirts are really summer items, and the brighter color will be more appropriate then. I also can't knock the decision not to get the navy, just for my subjective and unfounded personal bias stated above. :)

Just bought some dark green chinos from Next and was wondering what to pair them with. Was thinking my blue denim style Oxford under a Mustard cable knit jumper. With my grey tweed blazer, and brown brogues or brown Chelsea boots??
Any ideas?

I always think a pale pink oxford shirt is a winner with green chinos. Liking the sound of brown Chelsea boots (nearly bought some yesterday) and the grey tweed blazer though.

Work Xmas do coming up and thought I'd go in this weed suit, plus red shoes similar to the ones shown. Deliberating with the shirt / top though. Thinking navy shirt be too formal / dull? maybe corduroy... but a bit too much with tweed? Any thoughts..

Firstly I assume you mean tweed suit. Not weed suit. That's something different :p

Secondly I would say that corduroy is definitely overdoing it - and that the problem with a navy shirt wouldn't be that it'd look too formal but that usually wearing a shirt darker than your suit just doesn't look all that great to these eyes.

I suggest you try an Oxford-weave shirt in white or, ideally, in ecru, off-white, cream or somesuch tone. A jumper/cardigan would dress it down slightly if that's what you're after. And if you were to opt for a tie, burnt orange and grey tweed is an excellent combination.

You could look at a polo neck too - in more or less whatever colour you please (burnt orange beckons...). I'd go for a thicker, textured knit if you do though; my thinking is that a more Euro, elegant thin merino type would clash with the British heritage vibe of the tweed.

And when you say red shoes I do hope you mean a really rather deep tone! I have a terrible mental image of Santa-coloured kicks...
