Best Men's Hair Products

After seeing Jay and Sam rave on about sea salt spray. I decided to pick some up the other day, and it is pretty amazing stuff, it gives you so much control and makes your hair feel thicker and gives it volume. My new routine is to use KMS sea salt and American Crew clay... I've also ordered some D:fi destruct because I get my quiff looking half decent then later on it lose some of its umph.


I will try some of that Hairbond gear once my molding clay has run out.

I have tried and tested so many hair products at this stage, yet to find one that I am 100% happy but I will detail some of my favourites. I have thick hair, currently styled in a quiff.

Label M Curl Cream: Throw a bit of this in before you blowdry your hair and it gives great grounding structure for a quiff. It give a similar result to label m sea salt spray but without the dryness and looks matt in the hair after blow drying.

Label M matt paste: Decent product for shorter hair, nice matt professional finish. Not really strong enough when my hair is very long though.

American cream boost powder: Similar to osis dust it. Gives great volume and texture for a messy kind of hairstyle. The powder left the hair from your head at the roots once it touches your scalp.

Hairbond moulder: decent, not as bit a fan as some of the others on here of it though. Gives good texture and hold but for some reason I dont like the look of it in my hair, it gets kind of wispy and dry looking (and I normally like dry products). Still good though.

Alterna hair concrete: Not as strong as it would suggest but gives great pliable hold and matt finish.

Renati rock hard: Excellent product for finishing. Use something else for rubbing through your hair and use this to detail and prevent fly aways. Can be used soley on its own for a really good spikey/more elevated strong matt finish.

I know alot have recommended american crew fiber, but I hate the stuff!

Currently using Lable m curl cream and matt paste for my quiff.

OK, I have my hair products almost sorted.

If I want it wild and matte looking I use Label.m sea salt spray followed by Hairbond moulder

If I want a slight sheen, I'm using the Baxter's Pomade.

However, I thought the pomade would give me a much slicker look. Anyone got a good product they use for that slick back quiff look?

I personally haven't tried it, but I've heard good things about American Crew pomade. Are you sure you're using enough of the pomade? I think you need to use quite a bit to give a decent slick look.

Oh, I'm sure I'm using enough of the pomade, but at £20 a pot, I don't want to be getting through it a week or so just because I have to use a tonne of it to create the look I'm after.

Have you tried using the pomade on damp hair? I find if I use my American Crew clay on damp hair it looks pretty slick.

Would anyone have any recommendations for a decent fixing spray? I know the sea salt sprays are getting a lot of attention in here, but I've read that some reviewers with thin, fine hair find them a bit too greasy, so I'm wondering if anyone here has used any other sprays that hold well and are readily available (I noticed d:fi fixing spray was suggested earlier, but I'm having trouble finding it). Thanks.

Sea salt sprays aren't really fixing sprays. They are more about creating texture.

I've used both di:fi and redken fixing sprays and have had great results with both.

Have you tried using the pomade on damp hair? I find if I use my American Crew clay on damp hair it looks pretty slick.

I haven't as I have VERY straight hair and usually find that if I add product on my hair while damp the weight flattens it and I find it harder to get a decent quiff going. I've not tried it with the pomade so shall experiment a little.

I've just invested in some new hair products, got the American Crew pomade (if you're interested Jay I'll let you know how well it works, as I also have very straight hair), a men's vented hair brush, some Kevin Murphy shampoo that is highly regarded, some L'Oreal Professionel Homme gel that is supposed to be really good for fixing hair in place without the usual side effects of gel, and some Bedhead for men hair spray. I'll post some feedback when I get the products.
