Changing Hair Colour
I am looking to do something radical and was thinking of getting my hair dyed red, what do you all think? Do I just ask for this at reception at the stylist instead of a hair-cut?
I am currently dark brown and it's getting a little long and messy but probably going to get short and shaved but messy on top. Just chose red at random as I like it? I could probs go a kind of yellow as well might work. Or a good strong black would be a change for me but not quite the impact I want I think. Any other suggestions?
My hair grows really quick so it's not going to last long really.
Hmm - you seem to have a lot of options going through your mind there haha.
If I were you, I'd stay away from red or anything too off the wall like that. The general men's trend right now seems to be more the cut than the colour.
My hair is short at the back and sides with some length on top to play with. I am naturally very very dark blonde (it doesn't even look blonde it's that dark) - and I, like you, wanted a change.
I decided to lighten my hair and it has been dyed / bleached in the past. Rather than go back like that though I asked for a grey / silver white blonde so it was slightly more edgy.
Like this: This pic isn't me btw.
Anyway, I was really happy when it was first done but it has since started to go a little yellow - as happens with blonde.
But I think next time I go, I'll prob have the same again. It works for me as I have pale skin, and have recently just grown some stubble / beard so it compliments it nicely. But it differs person to person.
I like experimenting with colour - just make sure if you're gonna do it you keep on top of it. Like you say though - your hair grows quick so that's always good if you aren't too struck on it!
Dyeing hair is a big no-no for me. It's just feels like something men shouldn't do if they don't have to, and even if you were going grey, grey looks awesome!
I think my hair, natural and a bit messy, is the thing which helps me retain a sense of a masculinity when I'm fussing over what I'm wearing. If I had it bleached, I'd lose that.
Hmm I don't agree with the whole 'losing masculinity' thing if you dye / bleach your hair.
It's almost as bad as saying - oh my god you're so gay coz you are wearing a pink shirt.
I didn't think people still thought like that.
For me, I dye my hair because my hair is naturally very dark blonde. But it's natural colour is not a good look for me. Having my hair lightened makes my eyes stand out more (they're blue) and it contrasts nicely with the roughness of my stubble.
I have found I get more compliments on my recent lighter hair / stubble combo than I do on what I'm wearing. But that could just say more for my fashion sense than anything else hahaha. Though I do hope not... ;)
