Haha yeah, I was ruminating on my five for a good 20 minutes or so. I'll look back on it in a few days time and another band will cross my mind that I think should be on my top five. Absolute nightmare!

Some great shouts on here chaps (props especially for Elliott Smith). Fuck the Libertines though!
No way I can do a top 5, but 5 of my favourites, in no particular order:
The Avett Brothers (check them out now, thank me later)
Arcade Fire, obviously....
Johnny Cash
The Decemberists
Sufjan Stevens
However, ask me again in a week and I will give you a different list. What I listen to depends on my mood, though it is mostly somewhere on the "depressing" spectrum (except, perhaps, the last choice)!
Coldplay (they are the greatest band on earth)
Death Cab for Cutie
Bon Iver
Kanye West
Eric Clapton (and his assorted projects)
I'm seeing surfer blood when they open for death cab in a few months, pretty excited =]
and I love the avett Brothers! The Gleam EP never leaves my ipod =P And i'm seeing them at bonaroo next month!

I'm aware that it probably won't be everyone's cup of tea but I've been having a raging mangasm to these chaps for the past few days. It's just such a technical mind fuck.
Oh, and I'm quite enjoying Marina and the Diamonds new album. I think that there shows how diverse my musical tastes are.
I'll use them to replace a couple of my current top five.
GB1991 - glad you like the Avett Brothers :-) Best band I've ever seen live.
Big yes to Bon Iver and Death Cab for Cutie, but Coldplay....I just don't get it! Ok, it's good pop music, but it's just so "meh"
Thought this would be a grand place for my first post! Some agreeable bands being mentioned here, I have to say.
My top 5 would be something like this:
Sigur Rós
The Roots
AC/DC (never gets old)
Opeth
John Butler Trio
First three are definite. Could be any number of artists for the last two spots though, to be honest.
Django Django self titled album is so good!
1) Bloc Party (comfortably)
2) Radiohead
3) Strokes
4) Maccabees
5) Smiths
Have to say I'm really getting into Indie-dance type stuff (m83, justice, mgmt) at the minute. It all really depends on my mood.
Gonna struggle to pick just 5!!
1. Bob Dylan
2. The Beautiful South
3. The Smiths
4. Tom Waits
5. Sigur Rós
