Boat Shoe Trouble?

So I have a wonderful pair of light tan boat shoes, but with no laces. They had slightly darker leather laces in, and I'm not quite sure how to replace them. I had been cleaning all of my shoes, but left the laces outside for some unknown reason. This caused the leather laces to break into pieces.
So what colour/material laces should I replace them with?
