Thoughts on these? Much cheaper. Wondered if anyone had heard anything on quality? I'm leaning towards brown now I think.

They don't look too bad. For the same price, however, you might find a pair of Loakes or Barker's on eBay which are infinitely better (in my opinion).
They are a nice pair though.

These are on the cards as well. Jones bootmakers, tan. And 99 quid. I assume these are good quality shoes so the price is pretty reasonable.
The trouble I had was finding a pattern I really liked. That's what drew me to the barker's: the brogue detailing isn't excessive, but it looks damn good.
Those Jones' ones are nice, but personally have too much going on for me. Damn though, it is so easy to get really picky! They are a lovely pair of shoes.
It's good to be picky! It's what seperates us from the people walking around in ill-fitting blazers and tee-shirts which resemble girls blouses.
I personally like a brogue to be quite busy, because I like the quirky englishman vibe a very classic, full brogued shoe gives. It's interesting to hear so many different opinions though, even on the item that the cliched fashionbeaner is supposed to worship unconditionally.
What did you settle on, Nath? If its not too late to throw my $0.02 in, here's what I've got..
Ted Baker Guri 4 - (£99 to £130, depending where you shop - I paid £99 at Slaters)

These come with the blue laces, which you can switch out for the brown laces they also come with. You will need a good polish and cleaning kit to stay on top of them (as with any nice shoes I guess).
I settled on the Jones ones, they've suited me very well so far and all of the staff in Reiss complimented me on them the other day (sad that this was the highlight of my week...)
Thanks for the heads up though. I'm a brogue fanatic so may very well look into those in the future. I've just bought another pair of brogue boots from Jones last night.
Awesome, post them up! I'll be after some darker brown brogues when I return from travelling - just in time for a/w!
Those barkers look charming and there's no such factor as too formal! .
