Buying Some New Brogues For AW12

I've finally decided to get my loved ones to cash together and get me a decent investment pair of brogues this august for my birthday.

My budget is between 100 and 200. I'm looking for either brown or tan, but probably more towards the latter. So far I'm considering:

1) Some by barkers.

(They look much better in person and have a wide range of shades. I also like the shape and have heard brilliant things about the quality)

2) Or the Grensons

These seem to be a firm fashionbeans favourite I've noticed. My only concerns are that they look rather chunky (I have shallow and fairly narrow feet). Also they are VERY tan. Thirdly, I don't like buying shoes online.



Does anyone have any other recomendations?

I'm not a huge fan of the chunkier Grenson Brogue either, I would go for something slimmer like the Dylan.

This is another Barker brogue, it might be a touch too formal, but I think it's fine.


I'm eyeing up these for the winter, my Hudson Brogue Boots are too big (I seem to have lost weight on my feet)

Those barkers look lovely and there's no such thing as too formal! (coming from the guy who finds it hard to leave the house without a tie on).

And those boots are lush as well. My brogue boots are from (don't judge me...) Topman, but they've lasted surprisingly well. Got them for 35 in the sale but I have had to reheal them once.

I have the Grenson Dylan's in Tan and their such an awesome pair of shoes that instantly improve any outfit. Their also super comfortable even without socks. It is hard to get them in the sale though! I got mine with 30% off from Pavilion last year. They do have a first order code with 10% off though which ain't too shabby.

Went to go look at the Barkers today. Looked great, but I prefer the look of the Dylans in Tan.

Anyone know anything about grenson sizing so I could take some measurements?

They fit true to size to be honest mate. I'm an 8 and they fit me like a glove.

I prefer the top pair of Barker's. Maybe because I have a pair in Oxblood? I don't know, but they're an awesome pair of shoes.
I think the Grenson's look a bit too light. I actually prefer a pair of Oxford's in tan to Brogue's. I think Brogue's work better in darker shades, but that's just my opinion.

Have you considered Loake? You might find a bargain on eBay as I did with the Barker's (mine were £8)

No bargains on there at the moment, but there are some nice pairs at outlet price.

I can say this now: my Loake's are the comfiest shoes I've ever had the pleasure to wear.

You get what you pay for! My Loake loafers are super comfy also, and my Grenson brogues are.
