My go to boots the last few winters have been my Grenson Freds and I love them, but it gets to the point where I'm wearing them practically every day; bit dull and means they'll wear out quicker. Looking for another pair to supplement them - something a touch more casual, in a lighter leather, with a different silhouette and ideally a paler sole. Currently thinking either a Red Wing-style moc toe work boot or an old-school hiking boot. Any thoughts or other suggestions?
I just posted a thread asking about Red Wings, so will definitely keep tabs on this thread if there are any comments on them!
I guess I'm in a similar predicament to you so I'm not too sure how much I'll be able to help. Are you going for practicality? Because I think a hiking style boot would look great as well as endure the harsh winter! Can't think of a much better casual look than some indigo jeans with hiking boots for the winter. Although I've heard steel-capped boots can be a pain when it comes to wearing away the front of your socks though
Keeping an eye on this one too, not sure what I'm going to do for boots, I only have a Cat pair. Solid boot but not very going out.
As for steel toe caps/socks.... I wear steel toe caps in work every day and i haven't noticed any extensive wear on my socks!
That's good to know Neil, was quite worried for my toes' health :) I think the style of the Red Wing is perfect for a more casual and stylish boot, haven't really seen too many comparable ones that are nice enough to take a punt on!
