Hot Right Now - Denim Shirts

As you know by now, I am always on the pulse of what’s happening in fashion! :D I wrote an article about how double denim was starting to become a major fashion trend for men this summer and now a lot of major retailers are starting to stock denim shirts in order to pull off the look. All Saints have just got in some amazing examples, that will really work if you are looking to get on board. If you are not sure about the basics of doubling up your denim then read my original post here.

The double denim look is much more advanced now a days and means you won’t typically look like you just came from the local rodeo! The washes of these new shirts are amazing, the colours are varied and overall it means that it will be easier to pair with a contrasting colour of your existing jeans. I particularly like the half sleeve versions of the denim shirts below, because they seem a little more lightweight and perfect for these summer months when you go out. Plus I always fold or push my sleeves up anyway.

Take a look at the newest denim shirts I have found so far below. I recommend you pick one up and try this look as I don’t think a lot of men will get on board (meaning you will stand out), and it is easy to pull it off if you follow the basic tips in the double denim article.

New Denim Shirts

These shirts are either true denim, or denim “looking” shirts – either of which will still allow you to pull off the look effectively.

UPDATE: A Great Denim Look

People have been asking in the comments about different ways to wear the denim look. Each person would have their own style but I would concentrate on the geeky or rocker look. If you are going all out geeky just contrast your washes of denim on your top and bottom half, slim fit your bottom half to give the tailored/formal effect and then button that shirt right to the top and just leave it like that. Perfect look without going overboard. You can add a bow tie or skinny tie to a denim shirt if you really want to dress it up, and then fold you sleeves if you want/need to.

The second look below I grabbed from All Saints latest press campaign and it really it a great way to twist the look and give it an edge. They have used a similar shirt to the first shirt featured above to mix with an even DARKER shade of skinny jeans. Rolled up with deck shoes is right on trend this summer for the whole nautical/festival feel and makes the bottom half stand out. They have used layering to great effect here by probably oversizing their denim shirt and adding what seems to be another check shirt underneath. Buttoning the top half of the shirt and showing layering on the bottom is an amazing idea which definitely will set you apart in your look.

Remember you don’t have to wear 2 shirts, a graphic tee or similar would be good to layer with, just get creative with your style. The tip to take away here though is layer up (either undo the top or bottom buttons) and you can oversize the shirts in order to give them more of a jacket feel. You could even wear them open with layering underneath.

For a start I think this website is incredible. Secondly I knew you were going to put the All Saints shirts up their, they are stunning, especially top left (I have my one on pre order.) What would you wear the denim shirt with?

I really like this – the geeky-denim look is fantastic…y’know, buttoned all the way. I prefer this to the totally unbuttoned with a vest. I do think it would be cool to find something to layer or accessorize with (get me with my fashion-type language lol) – the reason I say this is because, y’know, shirts just hanging out are seen in every bar, club and high-street in the world…because it’s an easy option…the bow-tie pics I’ve seen really caught my eye, or just, y’know, something to make the shirt cool other than the fact that it’s a cool material at the moment – does that make sense or have I gone crackers? The bottom two shirts are lovely too, but in a kinda lazy weekend morning, bimbling around the shops kinda way…it does feel like they have more potential, but, y’know, since I have absolutely no style, well, enough said lol. Have an excellent weekend guys! :-)

i personally don’t like denim tops which includes shirts. Why? because everytime i see a person wearing one i remember britney spears and justin timberlake showing up at the red carpet wearing all denim outfits… if it werent for them i would like the style.. but the bow-tie look is very nice…

This is what I mean by NOT matching your denim colours! Lucky for us, we have 1000’s of different washes now to pick from which will allow us to do double denim much better.

That top shirt is one of my favourites as well. I am definitely going to be grabbing one once they release it and I have the funds at the end of the month. I would say for a dark shirt like that you could wear with a grey wash jeans in order to give that contrast. You could also go the other way and try and go darker with black jeans but until I see the actual colour in the flesh I don’t know if it would be possible.

Here is a good picture of Zac Efron wearing grey and black shaded denim which is really a good look:

You can layer and accessorise a denim shirt like any other shirt. A Bow tie (in right now) or skinny knit tie would be a good look to dress it up.

I have added a new section just to the bottom of the post that will hopefully explain what I mean better!

thanks for the advice, where would you get a good bow tie from and what cut would the tie be, straight thing, cut off, square etc?
    thanks

I think you should try clicking here.

All Saints do some good bow ties and ties which are not as formal and more along the fashion line.

If you are going to tuck your shirt in then I would say to square off your tie, but otherwise just go with what you like best. Skinny ties should work quite well with the look overall.
