Ada + Nik
Womenswear designer Ada Zanditon and fashion guru Nik Thakkar have joined forces to create a new menswear brand, aptly titled Ada + Nik. Not ones to play it safe by going for a reserved first collection, the pair are pulling out all the stops with a range of clothing inspired by Greco-Roman punk. We’re already imagining gladiators with Mohawks and can’t wait for the unveiling at London Collections: MEN next month. Complete with eel-skin t-shirts, kilts and leather shorts, we’ve a sneaking suspicion the ten piece collection is not going to be for the faint-hearted. With Nik’s favouring of monochrome, minimalist luxe meeting Ada’s unique silhouettes, this new brand has all the makings of a match made in fashion heaven. Renowned for sculptural womenswear adorned with her own illustrations, Ada Zanditon is breaking out of her comfort zone by branching into menswear. Zanditon quickly climbed the womenswear fashion ladder after showcasing her graduate collection at London Fashion Week in September 2009, and often blends historical influences with futuristic fantastical forms. On plucking up the courage to create a collection for men, the designer said “I have often been asked about creating menswear – but always found it a challenge to pinpoint a male masculinity that really embraces the Zanditan attitude of bold, sexy, fearless elegance. Nik really is all of this and more – a modern warrior prince for the 21st Century.” We’re not sure how he’d fare as a gladiator punk warrior, but Nik Thakkar certainly gets his around the fashion industry – literally. He’s been the face of many brands, including a collaboration between Nicola Formichetti and Asher Levine. The television personality, fashion creative and writer also has creative partnerships with Karl Lagerfield, Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier and Louis Vuitton, amongst others, under his belt. In teaming Ada’s creative and striking designs with Nik’s creative know-how, we here at FashionBeans are betting this new super team will make waves in the industry.
