Arsenal x Lanvin

The beautiful game is making a return to beautiful suits with Arsenal calling in Lanvin to kit out the team. Kicking the usual tracksuits to the curb, manager Arsène Wenger has brought back the tradition of wearing tailoring to games on match days. Choosing French fashion house Lanvin to suit and boot his team, Wenger hopes the decision will instil more team spirit within his ranks. Arsenal players were reportedly custom-fitted in Lanvin’s Savile Row shop, where each was given a slim-cut navy suit made from Italian-spun wool. The team will wear white poplin shirts, Arsenal-red ties and shiny black shoes with the addition of navy cardigans in colder weather and red bow ties for more formal occasions. The suits, unveiled last Saturday at Arsenal’s game against high-flying Southampton, also feature the club’s crest on the lapel. According to Lanvin’s menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver: “What they needed was something elegant and dignified but which lets them move and not feel at all restricted… So we have made the suit as light as possible and given it a soft shoulder.” Despite many sports teams not being outfitted by fashion houses due to brand sponsorship rights, Versace has previously outfitted the Real Madrid team and AC Milan similarly has been styled by Dolce & Gabanna. With Arsenal’s affiliation with Lanvin lasting at least two years, here’s hoping for a more stylish future in the sport. The Lanvin autumn/winter 2013 advertising campaign is available to view in the men’s lookbook category now.
