The battle of winter versus summer is officially under way, with the sun making a welcome – even if a little overdue and somewhat scattered – appearance over the last few weeks amidst the attacks of hailstones, thunder and lightning, and ferocious winds. With any luck winter will be a gentleman about the whole thing and bow out graciously, allowing us to get our pasty limbs and factor twenty out for a couple of months at least. In the name of spurring summer on, Burberry are set to release a limited edition male fragrance this month, entitled ‘Burberry Summer’. As you would expect, the scent is inspired by British summers – and is tellingly said to be ‘reminiscent of rain on a hot day’. With an initial scent that is light and refreshing, with top notes made up of zingy citrus, crushed mint and juniper berries, the heart of the fragrance – which combines driftwood, thyme and gorse flowers – leads effortlessly into a ‘sensual base’, which remains light enough to be summer appropriate, creating a soft white musk with tones of amyris wood, warm cedarwood and amber. The bottle for ‘Burberry Summer’ is an ode to the Burberry Prorsum SS13 collection. A reinvention of the classic Burberry fragrance container, both the bottle and the packaging come in a bright aquamarine, clearly in line with the previous collection’s penchant for metallic turquoise – remember the fantastically bold, all-over metallic trench coats and clutch bags? If those were a little out of reach budget wise, you can grab this pocket sized alternative for a fraction of the price at £42.
