Elijah Wood Collaborates With Bushmills & Grado Labs
Actor-turned-DJ Elijah Wood is mixing whiskey and music in a collaboration with Bushmills and Grado Labs. Along with his DJ partner Zach Cowie, the foursome have created a pair of limited edition headphones, manufactured from whiskey barrel wood. Irish drinks firm Bushmills provided the raw materials from the cellar of their distillery while family-owned audio experts Grado set about completing the tech with a leather headband. The headphones, which feature a recycled white oak body and vented-back design, come complete with a presentation box. It is reported that the actor spent five months finalising the product’s design before putting his name to it.
“Working with Bushmills Irish Whiskey on this project enabled Zach and I to take our shared love of music and build upon it.” Elijah Wood
It’s not the first time Wood, who performs under the name Wooden Wisdom a.k.a. DJ Frodo, has partnered with the distillery along with Cowie. The pair delivered a set at Bushmills Live Festival on the Belfast site in 2012. The unusual team, which now includes Brooklyn-based Grado Labs, has also produced a short film, entitled ‘Sounds Good’, to accompany the release. Demand for the limited-run product was so high that the headphones, priced at $395 (£240), sold out on exclusive retailers TurntableLab.com on the first day. The site is currently asking visitors to register for a stock e-mail notification.
