Givenchy Spring 2014 Pre-Collection
Givenchy’s SS14 men’s pre-collection is not for the faint-hearted. Awash with eclectic prints, thrown together, the collection takes inspiration from suave and bold Latin men who refuse to blend into the crowd. These are men who have the confidence to clash busy prints and carry ambitious looks without question.
In the accompanying lookbook, a string of vivid, print-heavy pieces are lined up as our eyes are tantalised with floral prints, camouflage and checks. As the collection progresses, prints are juxtaposed with a more rapid vigour; as if man’s confidence is steadily evolving. Cut and paste techniques are a shining centrepiece in this collection, with patchwork glimpses offering surprising compositions. Layering is masterful and marks the difference between a man who looks as if he got dressed in the dark and a man who is fashion-forward and interesting.
A firm favourite of Givenchy top dog Riccardo Tisci, streetwear influences are again championed this season. The urbanite is evident in t-shirts, parkas and kilts mingling with elegant formal wear. Whilst the prints win our attention in a particularly boastful manner, it is the sleek tailoring which vies for our affections deservingly.
The formal wear is seriously sophisticated; anchoring sharp cuts and sleek silhouettes into the Givenchy signature aesthetic. With snug tailoring, these pieces are effortlessly elegant and spiced up with printed shirts and relaxed sandals.
Givenchy will also throw a men’s bag collection into the works this season. The collection will feature travel bags, everyday bags and clutch bags. Expect some of the pre-collection prints to stray into the designs and watch out for an interesting sounding appearance from braided multi-coloured leather.
