Grenson x Foot the Coacher For Mr Porter

In 2013 it seems that distance and geographical location is no obstacle for two great names to come together and collaborate. On this occasion, 6,000 miles have not stopped renowned British shoemakers Grenson and Japanese label Foot The Coacher creating a limited edition collection of boots, exclusively for Mr. Porter. Grenson have over 130 years experience in shoemaking and have become a name synonymous with British style and quality craftsmanship. The brand was the first in the world to use the ‘Goodyear welt’ construction method, which allows shoes to be resoled and thus increasing their lifespan by years, if not decades. Foot The Coacher creator and designer Toshinosuke Takegahara also uses this same technique in his shoes, with the label often taking inspiration from classic English designs for many of its own styles. Takegahara actually studied shoemaking right here in England, Northamptonshire to be precise. This is actually the same location that Grenson started its operation way back in 1866, so a collaboration seemed destined to be. On the pairing Tim Little, owner and creative director of Grenson said: “What Foot the Coacher do is very much about old, antique styling. Their speciality is the vintage English look with their own take – Victorian footwear, in particular. Shoes today have become more simple than they were back then. A lot of the tiny detailing has been abandoned, and they bring a lot of that back. We were able to take their designs, and look back into our archives for old construction methods.” Takegahara added that it’s “an opportunity to show what Britishness means to us – but from our own design perspective”. Old school English football boots inspired the first design. The leather boots feature a round toe with a textured body and lace-up front and come in black or brown. The second silhouette included within the collection is the Edwardian ‘Balmoral’ boot: a classically stylish and versatile pair of boots that are smart enough to wear to the office or on a night out. With this style you have three options: black, brown and a black/off white two-tone version. The collection is available exclusively at MrPorter.com now.
