Herschel Supply x New Balance Fall 2013

Herschel Supply and New Balance have reunited this August to produce another capsule collection of footwear and accessories for the coming season. Building on the pieces they created in their first joint venture last year, this collaboration introduces a further technical element alongside other modifications to these already proven models. New Balance once again brings their classic 420 trainer silhouette and the outdoors oriented 710 trail shoe to the table. Waxed laces and reflective tape add some practical touches to the already hard wearing designs whilst Herschel Supply’s signature paisley lining and custom branding set these models apart from the standard issue. Although last year’s collaboration relied upon bold colours to create a range of statement pieces, the new fall 2013 collection takes a different approach. Muted autumnal shades of burgundy, grey and khaki offer a subdued, neutral look. Whilst this may not be as eye catching as the previous range, it does make each piece more versatile and allows both of them to integrate within a broader range of looks. The selection of accessories offered by Herschel Supply has been condensed this year. The Novel duffle bag is nowhere to be seen, leaving the heritage NB backpack to take centre stage. However, it has been slightly modified: the shoe compartment, previously exclusive to the duffle, has been added, making this bag a great companion piece to the shoes as well as giving it additional functionality for activities such as cycling or climbing, where a change of footwear may be necessary. Overall, the Herschel Supply x New Balance fall collaboration offers the same quality as last year with an overhaul that lends the pieces a different aesthetic as well as additional functionality. The range takes classic pieces from both brands and unites them through a shared devotion to quality.
