Kenzo x TOILETPAPER

French luxury house Kenzo is turning to TOILETPAPER magazine for not one, but two collaborations. The upcoming projects include a fresh capsule collection of clothes (complete with iPhone case), and a print journal dubbed the ‘KENZENE’.

Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari founded TOILETPAPER in 2010 under the artistic guidance of Micol Taso. Taso himself was responsible for shaping the concept of the modern picture and editorial-based magazine. The Kenzo x TOILETPAPER collaboration began with the shooting of the clothing brand’s autumn/winter 2013 advertising campaign. Since then, it has been a flurry of new products and designs.

The clothing consists of print-heavy t-shirts and sweatshirts with an emphasis on bizarre imagery. Graphics are fashioned in psychedelic hues, which are in stark contrast with the muted colours of the fabric.

The images include, but are not limited to, the recognisable Kenzo eye print, which features on the American flag. This motif has been directly lifted from Kenzo’s previous successful collection and re-imagined through the editorial lens of TOILETPAPER. The iPhone cases feature the same striking designs, finished in glossy black – the perfect balance between quirky and tasteful.

The second collaboration, the KENZINE takes its name from the label’s online blog. Moving into print, the publication is a combination of an art book, advertising campaign and an exercise in innovation.

The teaser video for this fresh new campaign (below) illustrates the creative energy and vibrancy to be expected from the partnership. Elements from print and fashion are interwoven to form a fresh take on grunge and avant-garde trends. The limited run – only 1,500 copies of the collaboration – make it an exclusive product for the more enthusiastic collector.
