Loewe x Junya Watanabe

Luxury leather goods label Loewe are set to collaborate with Japanese design protégé Junya Watanabe on a collection of bags for both men and women. The release date of said collection is expected to be September 2013 at Paris Fashion Week, when the items will go on sale in Dover Street Market’s Tokyo store and on the Loewe website. Junya Watanabe rose to success on the back of his work for Comme des Garçons in the 1980s. His designs have been used by the prestigious fashion house on multiple occasions and he has had his own line with them since 1993. His designs are renowned for being highly vivacious and should ensure this partnership gets pushed into the realms of avant garde. However, Loewe is by no means a wall flower in this pairing; delivering sophisticated, classic styles on a regular basis. Loewe specialises in high end bags, guaranteeing an exciting showcase of pieces. The partnership comes as celebrations for ‘The Year of Spain in Japan’ and ‘The Year of Japan in Spain’ kick off, an initiative which aims to boost Spain’s profile in the cultural, economic and technological spheres. The year of festivities mark the first Japanese ship that arrived on Spanish shores four centuries ago. The cultural celebrations also coincide with Loewe’s 40th anniversary in Japan. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on this exciting partnership in the months to come.
