Introduction

A couple of years ago I wrote an article featuring female hair and beauty products that could also earn a place in a guy’s wash bag, and I thought it was about time I revisited the subject with an updated version. As you’ll know by now, if you’re a regular visitor to FashionBeans, I’m one of the biggest advocates there is for men’s grooming and the value of great luxury products. But even with so many superb men’s products out there, sometimes there are alternatives from the female beauty industry that can turn our heads. Whether it’s because the product type doesn’t exist on the men’s market, or there’s just a better option available ? these products can help take your grooming routine to the next level. You may choose to buy these products or you may choose to ‘steal’ them from an unsuspecting girlfriend/sister/housemate, but however you acquire them you’re going to need to know the best women’s products to look out for. Here are my current top five…

1. Moroccanoil Treatment (25ml/100ml)
What Is It?

Every so often a product explodes on to the beauty market, and changes the game forever. In 2012 that product was ‘hair oils’, and leading the pack was Moroccanoil. Still leading the market today, Moroccanoil Treatment (to give it its full title) has a nourishing formula that boosts the condition, strength and body of your hair. By nature it isn’t a product that guys would necessarily be that familiar with using, but it has benefits that can’t be ignored.

Why Do You Need It?

Used – as the name would suggest ? as a treatment, applying a small amount Moroccanoil after shampooing will transform the health of your hair. Like feeding your muscles after a hard work out, you need to repair your hair from time to time. Moroccanoil Treatment has a formula that feeds damaged hair proteins for strength; fatty acids, omega-3 oils and vitamins for shine; and antioxidants for protection. Think of it as a multi-vitamin for your hair.

2. ghd Air Hairdryer
What Is It?

A powerful motor, streamlined body work, ergonomic design and breakthrough technology ? sounds like a flash car or an iMac right? It’s the ghd Air Hairdryer. Made by the same guys that changed the hair straightening market forever, this hairdryer prides itself on being quicker, quieter and giving smoother, shinier results. With a choice of two nozzles, you’ll be able to tailor your styling to your hair type; whilst a cool shot button helps you set your style with an arctic blast of cold air.

Why Do You Need It?

I’m guessing most guys roughly towel dry their hair (or even just leave it to air dry) without as much as a second thought. Switching to a ‘blow dry’ and adding the ghd Air Hairdryer to your routine gives your hair styling the good foundation it needs. Not only will this electrical essential help you improve your look, but it will also boost the condition of your hair, and reduce the dreaded frizz. Short, long, curl or poker straight, a blow dry isn’t just for girls.

3. Tweezerman Slant Tweezers
What Is It?

Manufactured by hand with hardened Japanese steel and perfectly aligned for optimum performance (are you starting to see the theme?) the Tweezerman Slant Tweezers are another beauty essential that ticks all the boxes when it comes to efficiency and design working in perfect harmony. Loved the world over by makeup artists, beauty editors and the average Jane, these tweezers are simply the best in the business.

Why Do You Need It?

Tweezers are just tweezers, right? Wrong. Whether you’ve got a full on mono-brow or just require some occasional eyebrow maintenance ? you need the best tools for the job. Grabbing every hair, every time, these professional tools come in a variety of colours (including some fairly feminine shades) but there are enough man-friendly designs on offer that cover up the fact that you’re using one of the beauty industry?s most loved products.

4. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Body Lotion
What Is It?

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Body Lotion has been a cult favourite of women for generations thanks to its moisturising, skin softening, dryness quenching properties. Affordable luxury in a bottle, this essential not only locks in moisture lost during your shower routine but also helps smooth away stretch-marks and scars (which is a concern for more guys than you’d think).

Why Do You Need It?

Newsflash: men get dry skin, particularly on our bodies. You may not see it in changing rooms as often as you should, but behind closed doors guys up and down the land are applying moisturiser on their limbs, backs, chests and wherever else it’s needed. Despite this, the men’s grooming market doesn’t really seem to have cottoned on to this in a big way, meaning we have to look towards our female counterparts for a dry skin solution. With a formula that boasts cocoa butter (obviously) and vitamin E, Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lotion is the only thing that has kept my dry skin at bay this winter – and as the shorts come out for summer it should be an essential part of your routine, too.

5. Body Shop Shower Gels
What Is It?

I stumbled upon Body Shop Shower Gels by accident, in the same way that many guys will have discovered female beauty products before me ? I ran out of my own! My girlfriend has been buying Body Shop products for years, and not only are their products ethically sound, they work brilliantly too. Their range of shower gels is all ‘soap-free’, which means they won’t dry out your skin, and they lather amazingly well.

Why Do You Need It?

Because they’re like Molton Brown Shower Gels, but much cheaper. Because they smell amazing in a ‘just about fruity enough to be masculine’ kind of way. Because they don’t dry out your skin. Because they’re not tested on animals. Because most mainstream men’s shower gels are overpoweringly potent. And because you can share them with anyone else who uses your bathroom. Enough reasons? Now go out and buy a selection of Body Shop Shower Gels.
