David Beckham is just one star passing the torch to Neymar Jr as the Brazilian footballer is named eyewear ambassador of Italian lifestyle brand Police. The Barcelona forward also follows Bruce Willis, George Clooney and Antonio Banderas, who have all taken up the role in recent years. The La Liga wonder boy recently joined famed photographer Rankin on set of the brand’s campaign, which will see the 21-year-old unveiled as the new face. Commenting on his new position Neymar said: “It’s a pleasure and an honour for me to be the new global ambassador for Police.” The endorsement is a huge coup for the young star. The two-year deal is reported to be worth around $7m (£4.2m). The amount overshadows that of David Beckham, whose six-year run netted him around £1m a year. The President of the eyewear company that own Police, Ennio De Rigo, said: “We are very proud about this new and exciting collaboration with Neymar Jr.” Police’s popularity grew in the 1990s as a result of its now famous blue mirrored lenses. The brand is credited with transforming sunglasses from simple accessories to fashion statements. The name now covers a range of products from watches to perfume and leather goods.
