Raf Simmons for Mr Porter
Hot on the heels of their collaboration with Ami, Mr Porter has announced a new exclusive collection from famed Belgian designer, Raf Simons.
The collection is based around floral prints that have been lifted from unique watercolours and used to create a broad selection of garments. This range combines the softness and natural look of these prints with a grungy sensibility inspired by Kurt Cobain’s use of floral pieces.
Casual staples such as t-shirts and sweatshirts are used as a canvas to showcase the exceptional prints. The chosen palette – natural oranges and pinks juxtaposed with dark navy and black – shows off the aforementioned contrast between the soft/natural and darker grungy influences perfectly. A pair of pleated shorts in navy set a good balance between smart and casual wear and would look just as good with a shirt and blazer as with a plain t-shirt; a black bomber jacket provides a similarly versatile outerwear option.
Smarter pieces also feature in the collection. A short suit restricts the floral prints to a trim, giving a more subdued, formal option that retains a summery edge, whilst the printed shirt would be ideal to add a splash of colour to your existing suiting.
Footwear pads out the small yet flexible range. Printed hi-tops make a great modern, casual statement piece whilst chain-trimmed Derbies provide a punk contrast to the floral pieces that make up the majority of the collection.
Overall, Raf Simons’ exclusive collection for Mr Porter features an excellent range of refined statement pieces. While most would choose one piece as a centre point to an outfit, the fashion-forward may choose to wear several to really exploit the contrast of the collection. The combination of art and fashion make this a visually powerful range that showcases Simons’ signature creative take on fashion.
