The Letters AW13 Collection
Making a triumphant return to Japanese label The Letters, founder/designer Mukoda Yuichi recently unveiled the brand’s highly anticipated AW13 collection. The range boasts a minimally styled campaign that respectfully pays homage to old-world American workwear with subtle hints of vintage rocker. Employing an outdoors, nature-inspired backdrop for the editorial set, we are greeted with images of a model clothed in simplistic garb with emphasis placed on slim cuts and clean proportions. Working with a monochromatic colour scheme, the accompanying lookbook transports us back in time to a period reminiscent of the fabulous 1950s. The pictorial shots offered in basic black and white further emphasise this old school demeanour, producing a mature, gentlemanly semblance. Allowing outerwear to take centre stage, The Letters turn to rugged staple pieces like on trend biker and varsity jackets, worker coats and structured blazers to shape their collection and leave their indelible mark. A highlight look within the campaign, a sharp collarless leather biker acts as the main statement piece to a dapper, smart-casual ensemble outfitted with a simple white pullover shirt, tweed trousers and an oversized panama hat. Meanwhile, another outfit displays a fur vest as the focal point as it teams impeccably with a clean black crew-neck pullover and contrasting white denim jeans. Whilst still relatively new to the industry, The Letters have firmly cemented their status as a fashion forward menswear brand with this refined autumn/winter offering.
