Designer Puts Sportswear Rumours To Rest

Alexander Wang has used an ad campaign and a host of athletic stars to confirm a sportswear theme for his upcoming collaboration with H&M. Newly released images, which give a first look at many of the pieces set to drop in November, feature models and real life talent holding equipment such as hockey sticks, boxing gloves and footballs. Both the Balenciaga creative director and high street chain have hinted at the approach for several months, with previous tweets containing a boxing glove keyring. Footballer Andy Carroll and kickboxer Rivaldino dos Santos make an appearance alongside models Joan Smalls, Raquel Zimmermann, Isabeli Fontana and Natasha Poly, described as Wang’s “ultimate dream team”. The clothing and accessories line, created by the American designer for the Swedish retailer, comprises boxing shorts, ski jackets, tube socks, athletic wear and gym bags. Pieces revolve around a colour palette of black and grey, with flashes of colour appearing in edging and mesh panelling. Wang’s own-name branding also features in block letters across sleeves, shorts and waistbands. The campaign also includes a TV ad and online film, set to debut on 30th October. An earlier preview revealed the 26-year-old was working on “a completely new take” on H&M’s collaborations, following in the footsteps of Alber Elbaz, Isabel Marant and Karl Lagerfeld. No details of price points in the collection have been revealed, but the full range is slated for a global release on 6th November.
