Anthony Vaccarello is to design the next Versus capsule collection, Donatella Versace has announced. The fashion house’s diffusion line recently made a comeback, headed by the likes of Christopher Kane, J.W. Anderson and rapper-turned-designer M.I.A. Followers of the brand have responded positively, agreeing that Vaccarello, known for his bold, sensual clothing, is a perfect fit to carry on Versus’s ultra elegant aesthetic. Commenting the line’s new front man, global fashion icon and group vice-president, Donatella Versace said: “Anthony’s clothes have everything that I love: they are sensual, dynamic, daring.” It was revealed that the deal was finalised in the kitchen of Gianni Versace’s former apartment. According to reports, the pair discussed supermodels, Richard Avedon’s ad campaigns for the line in the nineties and what Vaccarello intends to do with Versus. “Donatella told me that there are no limits; she trusts me to see it through my eyes,” said 31-year-old Vaccarello. “These days, everyone is inspired by what the house of Versace did, so I want to bring Versus close to where it started, to work with its most emblematic codes,” he added. The Belgian designer is remembered for producing skin-tight clothing for women; how this will translate into the menswear arm of Versus Versace is yet to be seen. The Anthony Vaccarello x Versus Versace collection will debut in 2014; the exact details of the presentation are currently being kept confidential.
