Agi & Sam could soon add an international award to their list of achievements. The design duo has been announced as one of nineteen European nominees for the Woolmark Prize.
As a UK representative, Agi Mdumulla and Sam Cotton will have the chance to scoop the first dedicated menswear award in the initiative’s three-year run, having previously been combined with womenswear.
Competing for one of the most coveted designer accolades, the pair will go up against other names from across Europe, including Melinda Gloss, France; Vladimir Karaleev, Germany; and CAMO, Italy.
Other regional rounds will be held in Asia, Australia, India, and the Middle East, and the US to narrow the international list to ten.
If Agi & Sam are successful, they will receive $50,000 Australian Dollars (ÂŁ27,900) and join four other menswear finalists at London Collections: Men in January 2015.
The overall international winner for menswear will take home a further $100,000 Australian Dollars (ÂŁ55,900) and have their collection sold through retail partners including Harvey Nichols in the UK and Saks 5th Avenue in the US.
The Woolmark Company’s Managing Director, Stuart McCullough, said the addition of a menswear award “signifies the strength and following of the International Woolmark Prize”.
Nominations for the honor are selected by key fashion organizations including international fashion councils and magazines.
The European regional heat will be held on 8th July in Paris.
