Late Artist Revived In Watch Collaboration

Young watch brand Komono has launched a new high-end accessories range, Komono Curated, stemming from its official collaboration with the estate of late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The limited run six-piece range applies Basquiat’s work to printed fabric wristbands on Komono’s Magnus, Winston and Wizard styles. Each carries a specific section of the art, making no two watches the same.

Basquiat’s signature crown logo appears on a mix of black, gold and silver faces as well as on the watch crown itself.

Work from the American, who died in 1988 aged 27, includes Philistines (1982), Pegasus (1987) and Museum Security (1983). A statement from the brand, founded by Belgian designers Anton Janssens and Raf Maes, said: “Jean-Michel Basquiat is widely considered to be one of the most important artists of the 20th century. He remains unparalleled as a master of contrasting forces, injecting the raw energy of his early street art and graffiti into neo-expressionist painting.”

Further collaborations are expected in the Komono Curated series, however details of upcoming projects have not yet been revealed.

The Komono x Jean-Michel Basquiat watches are available to buy both online and at select UK stockists now. Prices start from ÂŁ55.
