Luxury British outerwear brand Mackintosh and preppy American clothing label Band of Outsiders have kick started a series of collaborations with their first ever joint ready-to-wear collection. The pair has produced five coats comprising updated and all-new models, such as a bonded-cotton pullover jacket, rain-resistant double-breasted pea coat and ombre check effect trench. Band of Outsiders designer Scott Sternberg has also carried over his AW14 collection theme, ‘The Death of the Newspaper’, printing Latin dummy text used in publishing over the classic Mackintosh single-breasted Dunkeld jacket. In addition to being available in Mackintosh and Band of Outsiders stores, the pair has also signed a deal with online menswear retailer Mr Porter to become the exclusive online stockist worldwide. Prices start from £850. Mackintosh marketing and sales director John Sugden said the collaboration shows off the British business as “a luxury heritage brand with contemporary relevance”. Meanwhile Band of Outsiders creative director Scott Sternberg hinted at what to expect from future projects: “We are having a lot of fun playing with their traditional shapes, fabrics, and techniques and twisting them into something new and modern.” Mr Porter senior buyer Sam Lobban confirmed the e-tailer would retain the exclusivity of future launches. “Each piece has its own story to tell, and we’re eager to be sharing the first of many collections between both brands…”
