British Artist Reveals Celebrity Swearing Photos

A host of celebrities have come together to deliver a very tongue-in-cheek message as part of Rankin’s latest coffee table book. F*ck Y*u features a series of male and female personalities including Damian Lewis, Eva Green, The Rolling Stones and Robert Downey Jr swearing at the British photographer’s camera. The idea stemmed from the famous black and white shot of Heidi Klum pulling a similar pose which was later printed by t-shirt manufactures across the world. In addition to the images, the book also contains essays from writers such as author Irvine Welsh, journalist Jon Savage and cultural broadcaster Professor Paul Rixon. Each examines topics from origins of the finger gesture to its modern day use. Savage comments: “As Rankin’s photos show, the finger is so central in today’s iconography that it has a multitude of meanings.” Rankin, whose real name is John Rankin Waddell, is known for his portrait photography of stars from Tony Blair to Ray Winstone and David Bowie. Alongside publishing several other books, the 48-year-old also co-founded Dazed & Confused magazine along with several other titles. The F*ck Y*u photography book by Rankin is available to buy exclusively in Urban Outfitters stores across Europe and online, priced at £25.
