Menswear Retailer In Collaboration First
Ten of Topman’s global stores have taken stock of the menswear retailer’s first ever collaboration with a British artist, teaming up with photographer Richie Culver on an 11-piece line. UK outlets, including Topman Oxford Circus, Manchester Arndale, Leeds, Selfridges London and Birmingham, Stratford Westfield, Hull and Shoreditch, will sell the range of oversized t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and head wear at launch tomorrow. Each garment features a piece of the Hull-born, Berlin-based artist’s work on a plain black, white or grey base. Internationals stores include two of Topman’s biggest American locations, in New York and LA. Culver, who has featured at shows in Norwegian art city of Stavenger and bookshop Maggs Bros in Mayfair, London, described the collaboration as a “personal” project. “Working with Topman means a lot to me, just like the British weather, sarcasm, football, things people see as English or British, Topman is up there in my opinion… I’ve tried to make the collection as British as possible, pulling out pieces from my artwork to fit today’s Topman,” he said. Topman creative director Gordon Richardson added: “The resulting collection of urban tees, sweats and caps have become and extensions of the original modern life paintings that are portrayed in the artists work and equally collectable.” To coincide with the launch, Culver worked with director and friend Tom Beard to create a short autobiographical film. The full clip will debut via the Topman website on the same day as the launch. The Richie Culver x Topman collection will be available to buy from 2nd October via select stores and online priced from £18.
