Stussy’s ‘Turn it Up’ J Dilla Tribute
A collection in memoriam of late American record producer J Dilla has just been rolled out by clothing brand Stussy.
The recent Jam Home Made collaborators worked in partnership with Dilla’s former employers, Stones Throw Records, to produce the ‘Turn it Up’ tribute line. It follows last year’s salute, which used t-shirt graphics to reference the producer’s classic albums.
February 2014 is a particularly poignant month for the release. It marks both what would have been his 40th birthday, as well as the anniversary of the artist’s death.
Born James Dewitt Yancey, Dilla died in 2006 following a battle with a rare blood disease.
This year’s limited edition line includes a white short-sleeved t-shirt and a black long-sleeved sweatshirt. Both feature an image of J Dilla wearing a piece of Stussy clothing and baseball cap below a levitating crown.
Stussy, who has previously teamed up with the likes of Converse and Penfield, has been paying tribute to the Michigan-born rapper since 2010. The brand is currently showing a J Dilla documentary on its website.
The collection is available to buy both online and in selected Stussy stores now. The t-shirts retail for €44 (£37) while the sweatshirts comes in at €52 (£43).
